Durable, Versatile, and Tactical: 500 Lumen Flashlights
The 500 lumen flashlights are a great tactical light for those who anticipate needing to use the flashlight while performing other tasks. Because of that, when I look for a 500 lumen flashlight, there are two major things that I look for: durability and versatility.
A lot of law enforcement and military folks I know like to use 500 lumen flashlights out in the field because they can mount these lights to their weapons. The first two 500 lumen flashlights that I’m reviewing for you are used for just that purpose, as tactical tools for our friends in the line of duty. With the purchase of the proper type of mounting, you can add the InForce 9VX or the Olight S10R II flashlight to your weapon of choice, such as an AK74 or AR15. Whether you’re out on the range, on duty, or out in the battlefield, these 500-lumen flashlights will show your target in the brightest light. As lights that are primarily suited for weapons mounting, in addition to being reliable tools for light in general, it’s also important to keep in mind that these lights shouldn’t be too heavy.
The last flashlight that I will review for you is a little bit different from the other two—its functionality is best suited for divers. This is the kind of light that is good for deep sea divers, people who enjoy caving, or military personnel who operate in the deep blue. I wanted to include the Tovatec-Innovative Scuba Flashlight to show you that 500 lumen flashlights are versatile lights that can be used for a range of purposes.
Its also important to note that all of these flashlights belong to the overall family of the best led flashlights, making them long lasting, very bright and extremely dependable, as my reviews have shown.

Title: Tactical and Practical—Recommended for Military and Law Enforcement Personnel
Flashlight: InForce 9VX
Review: This is a great example of a flashlight that demonstrates those features that I look for in a 500-lumen flashlight— durability and versatility. With its scalloped head design and a hard polymer bezel, this flashlight has been engineered to take several hard hits without getting a dent. The tail cap switch ensures that this won’t turn on in your pocket and waste battery energy. The flat dark finish is great because you won’t risk having the moonlight glint off of your flashlight and expose your position in a stealth situation. The InForce 9VX is also lightweight enough that you can easily mount it to your weapon of choice. I personally know a few military guys who have relied on these lights over in Afghanistan, and they have only great things to say about their quality and durability. The light has three modes—high, low, strobe—which makes it versatile enough for any situation, whether its lighting up a large area, providing just enough light to navigate your way through a dense forest, or signaling in an emergency situation. It’s a bit more costly than the other two flashlights reviewed below, and because of that, I think the minimal amount of accessories might disappoint some buyers. But the design of this flashlight showcases that InForce invests more in quality than quantity.
- Max lumen: 500
- Tailcap Switch
- Scalloped head design
- Hard polymer bezel
- Flat dark finish
- 3 modes: High, low, strobe
- Water resistant
- Accessories: Belt clip with built-in lanyard hole, 3 Lithium 123A batteries
- Good for tactical use—scalloped head design can be useful for breaking glass without breaking your lens
- Different light modes—the low intensity option is good if you need to light something up but want to remain stealth
- Flat finish means it won’t reflect light when you don’t want it to
- Good for mounting on weapons for law enforcement and military
- Minimal accessories for the cost

Title: Best Budget Flashlight and Bundle
Flashlight: Olight S10R II
Review: This is a good flashlight if you’re looking to balance budget and quality. For a lower price than the flashlight reviewed above, the Olight S10R II comes packed with a bunch of accessories. The flashlight itself is a testament to innovation and technology. The S10R II has five output modes—5, 100, 500, 0.5 and 10HZ strobe—making it the ideal weapon for people who anticipate needing to use it in stealth situations. The tempered glass lens is coated with double-sided, anti-reflective film, so it provides the clearest light possible without throwing any of that light back into your face. The flashlight has a side-button, which I’m not always a big fan of because they can turn on in your pocket, but the side button on the S10R II is flat enough to prevent that from happening. The tail cap has a strong magnet that can attach to anything metal, which can allow you to free up your hands for other tasks. A low battery indicator function lets you know when to recharge the battery, which you can do with the MICRO-USB charging cable that comes as part of the bundle. The S10R II is another flashlight that can be used by military and law enforcement personnel because it’s lightweight enough to be mounted on a weapon, and if you don’t want to do that, you can carry it with you in the holster that is included with the bundle deal.
- Max lumen: 500
- Cree-XP LED (long-lasting LED)
- Five output modes: 5-lumen, 100-lumen, 500-lumen, 0.5-lumen moonlight mode, and a 10HZ Strobe mode.
- Tempered glass with double-sided anti-reflective film coating
- Blue PVD technology stainless steel bezel and ring around the switch
- Flat side button to prevent the light turning on in the pocket
- Flat tail cap with a strong magnet that can attach to any metal surface for hands free operation.
- Low battery indicator function. Red LED on the button will light up when the battery is low.
- The Olight Rechargeable 650mAh RCR123A battery can last up to 7 days on one charge
- Battery reverse polarity construction
- MICRO-USB charging cable
- Removable and reversible U arm stainless steel pocket clip
- Salt bath nitride surface treatment (QPQ technology) makes it anti-scrape, anti-corrosion.
- Accessories: Lanyard, Charging Dock, RCR123 650mAh Battery, 2x Traffic Wands, Skyben Holster, Skyben USB Car Charger
- Comes loaded with accessories
- Good for mounting on weapons for law enforcement and military
- I’ve noticed some reviewers say that with this flashlight, you get what you pay for—you might be taking a chance on how long the quality of this light lasts.

Title: For the Life Aquatic
Flashlight: Tovatec-Innovative Scuba Flashlight
Review: Like the name of this flashlight suggests, this 500-lumen flashlight from Tovatec is specially engineered with divers in mind. You can take this flashlight on deep sea dives and into underwater caves for up to 400-feet. This is a great tactical flashlight for members of the Navy Seals or U.S. Marine Corps. Because it is primarily made to be taken deep underwater, it doesn’t have the same versatility and lightweight construction as the other two flashlights that I reviewed above. The Tovatec is heavier and bigger than the InForce 9VX or the S10R II, but that is also what makes it better for underwater operations, since a strong current won’t be able to loosen the Tovatec from your grip. That it provides 500-lumen also makes it highly desirable for casting light under water, but even more impressive is that Tovatec has thought ahead to make that light come out in a concentrated 14 degree beam angle. What this means is that rather than casting a wide, shallow light that might only illuminate a foot or two in front of you, the concentrated beam angle allows you to penetrate the depths of the ocean. It has a notable run time of 7-hours, and because it runs on just 6 AA batteries, it won’t be too costly or difficult to stock up on powering supplies. The magnetic slide switch is definitely a good option for scuba divers who might have a hard time with tail caps or side buttons because of the gloves they have to wear to endure the cold of the ocean depths. That being said, the magnetic slide switch is less suitable for those operating out of water, since it could easily be turned on in your pack.
- Max lumen: 500
- Weight: 1.23 lbs
- Run time: up to 7 hrs
- Concentrated 14 degree beam angle
- Magnetic slide switch
- Waterproof to 400 feet.
- Powered by: 6 AA batteries (not included)
- Anodized aluminum construction
- Concentrated 14 degree beam angle provides extra bright lighting
- Great for divers—waterproof up to 400 feet!
- Easy to acquire battery powering
- One mode only
- Heavy and large, which might be an issue for some
- Slide switch is good for divers, but if you carry this in your pocket or bag and it gets jostled, the light might be turned on unintentionally
The Olight 9VX, S10R II, and Tovatec Innovative Scuba flashlight are some of the best 500-lumen flashlights on the market. These flashlights are constructed with highly durable material, making them an excellent choice for tactical operations. There’s a reason military and law enforcement personnel choose 500-lumen flashlights as their go-to flashlight of choice. You can drop them, drag them through dirt, or get them soaked in rain—these flashlights will hold up to the wear-and-tear and then some. Because they are often designed with military and law enforcement personnel in mind, these flashlights are usually made to also allow you to operate in stealth mode, with low light options—like the moonlight mode of the S10R II—so that you can light up what you need to without giving away your position.
The 500 lumen flashlight also tend to be versatile, as the three flashlights that I just reviewed demonstrate. As flashlights for mounting, they are light enough that they won’t mess up the accuracy of your aim, regardless of if you mount them on top of a picatinny rail or below the barrel. These flashlights are great for SWAT or military personnel on raids—sometimes the best weapon is going to be a blinding light that catches the target off guard and renders them unable to see you. For the NAVY Seals and U.S. Marine Corps personnel though, the Tovatec is going to be the better option, especially because it provides the most effective concentration of light that allows you to pierce the darkness of the ocean.
Out of the 500 lumen flashlight, and between the Olight 9VX and the S10R II, my personal choice would be the Olight because of it’s reliability. It is definitely the more expensive option and comes with fewer accessories, but in a high-risk situation, it’s going to be reliability and quality that wins at the end of the day. Don’t get me wrong, the S10R II has a lot of cool features that meld technology and innovation, but if you’re out in the field without an electrical power supply, then a USB-rechargeable light won’t be much use. If you don’t need a flashlight for a military or law enforcement operation though, then the S10R II might be a better deal since it has a lower price and more accessories. The Tovatec flashlight is the 500 lumen flashlight that I would choose for any situation that will involve extensive submersion in water.
When you’re choosing the 500-lumen flashlight that is best for you, my advice is to keep an eye out for the durability and versatility of the tool.
